I previously posted a deal on using GV with Visible to get an unlocked iPhone SE at a dirt-cheap price:
For this deal, you need to keep the account for two months before receiving the Master Gife Card. Now that two months have passed, the third month’s bill is coming up. Visible is a prepaid wireless service, so in theory, if you don’t pay, your service will be automatically canceled.
- Cancel auto-pay: you can do it in the app or on the website payment page; if you can’t, contact customer service via online chat
Since you can’t remove the payment method from Visible, some readers were worried that if they forgot to have customer service turn it off, they might get charged unexpectedly. So I became the guinea pig and tried canceling only auto-Pay to see what would happen.
First, Visible will keep reminding you to pay. They’ll keep sending emails until they tell you the account has been suspended.
In the end, they’ll also tell you that you have one last $25 chance to come back, and if you don’t act by tomorrow, that offer expires... (Actually, for quite a long time afterward, you can still pay and restart service.)
So, if you cancel auto-Pay, the account will eventually be frozen, and then you’ll automatically be removed from Party Pay 48 hours after the account is frozen. If that’s your plan, you can just leave it alone. Be sure to remind your Party Pay teammates. My party was HaoYangMao, and I had clearly said from the start that this was only a short-term two-month group. We hope everyone joining teams and applying to join via comments on this site will make that clear.
If you like the phone number, I suggest contacting online customer service before the bill is due and asking for the PIN, then porting the number out to another carrier or to Google Voice. The fee to port into GV is $25, and after this kind of port-in, Google Voice will no longer reclaim the number. (For self-selected GV numbers, if you don’t send texts or make calls within 9 months, the number may be reclaimed.)
Also, according to Rafi wang’s DP, customer service can quickly help shut it off. If you’re sure you want to cancel immediately, contacting customer service is not much trouble either.
Online chat stopped the service directly without even asking why. Very fast, very efficient, and the phone lost signal right away.
