Benefits Analysis

  • 2.5x on mobile wallet purchases: Only eligible purchases up to the first $5,000 each quarter can earn this rate.

  • Points pooling: Points earned on this card can be combined with those from other personal or business Altitude cards

My Take

From a cash back perspective, this is fairly average for a card with a $195 annual fee, since the highest earning rate is only 2x–2.5x. I’ve heard this card came about after US Bank acquired Union Bank and then moved its customers over to this card. In fact, aside from the welcome bonus, this card is not especially attractive for long-term holding. But if you already have the other cards and just want this one for the welcome bonus, it could still be worth applying for.

Application

  • US Bank application status check link. Or call: 800-947-1444
  • When you apply, US Bank may check the two smaller credit bureaus SageStream & ARS credit reports, so you may consider freezing them before applying
  • You can only earn the welcome bonus on the same US Bank credit card once
  • You can call the reconsideration line (800-947-1444) to speed up the credit card approval process or to have a denied application reviewed again.
  • US Bank is relatively sensitive to HPs and new accounts. Having a US Bank Checking account can help with getting approved for a credit card
