According to Bloomberg, Uber has made an offer to acquire Grubhub in an effort to further expand its Uber Eats food delivery business.
As we all know, during the pandemic, more and more people have been using food delivery apps to order meals. Based on the current situation, demand for food delivery is likely to keep growing, and it could very well become an even more common part of everyday life in the future. So Uber also appears to be trying to seize this opportunity by buying Grubhub, which currently holds a relatively high market share, potentially creating a dominant player in the space. That would make life harder for other food delivery apps, such as DoorDash.
That said, the talks have not yet entered a substantive stage. In my view, there is still a good chance that Grubhub could use this unusual moment to sell at a high price. Let’s wait and see.
