United recently launched a debit card with a 10,000 UA mile account opening bonus. You can also earn UA miles on spending, and deposits can earn up to 70,000 miles per year. Pretty interesting.
Details are as follows:
- 1x miles on UA purchases, 0.5x miles on all other purchases;
- Spend $10,000 per year to earn a 2,500-mile bonus.
- Maintain $2,000 in deposits to waive the $4 monthly fee
- Approval does not require a credit check (effectively no hard pull, so it does not affect your credit score; the new card also will not appear on your credit report)
The chart below shows the annual mileage rewards for deposits. Valuing UA miles at 1.5 cents each, the top tier works out to roughly a 2.1% annual yield.
