About
State Farm has begun issuing a one-time Dividend totaling about $5 billion to eligible auto insurance customers, which is the company’s largest customer dividend in more than a century.
This payout covers more than 49 million vehicles insured by State Farm Mutual, with an average of about $100 per vehicle. The actual amount is based on the qualified premiums customers paid in 2025, and the return rate by state is roughly 4%–10%.
Eligible customers must meet the following requirements:
- They held a State Farm Mutual personal auto policy at some point between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025;
- The calculated dividend amount is at least $10;
- Policies obtained through a state Assigned Risk Program are not included.
Customers who no longer use State Farm may still qualify, as long as they held an eligible policy at some point during 2025. Multiple vehicles or multiple eligible policies may each receive separate payout notices.
The payout will be issued by state and in batches, and the process may take several months:
- Customers who have an email address on file will receive an email from Verita and can choose either electronic payment or a paper check;
- Customers without an email address on file will automatically receive a mailed check;
- The dividend will be paid separately and will not appear as a credit on an auto insurance bill;
- After choosing electronic payment, it may still take 2–4 weeks for funds to arrive.
State Farm auto policies in New Jersey are underwritten by other affiliated companies, so they are not included in this State Farm Mutual dividend.
State Farm said its 2025 auto insurance underwriting results were better than expected, so it decided to return part of those earnings to policyholders. In addition, the company recently lowered auto insurance rates in 40 states, with an average reduction of about 10%, which is expected to save customers about $4.6 billion per year.
When you receive an email, check the sender and the payment website, and do not provide banking information through an unfamiliar text message. Dividend status cannot be checked directly in the State Farm App; you can confirm it through the official payment website or by calling customer service.
