Singapore Airlines now allows children ages 2 to 16 to register for a mileage account and earn miles from flights. Through August 31, if you successfully register a child’s mileage account and link it to a parent’s mileage account, you can receive a 500-mile bonus, which will be credited to the parent’s account.
A child’s mileage account must have miles earned from flights within the past 36 months before miles can be transferred to a parent’s account.
Do note that you will not be able to transfer miles from your account to your child’s account. For security reasons, your child’s account must have at least one miles accrual from a flight in the last 36 months and no miles accrued from credit card transfers or co-brand card spend in the last 36 months.
It’s important to note that transferring miles from a child’s account to a parent’s account is not free. For every 5,000 miles transferred, the fee is $5 or 500 miles. That fee is fairly steep. Still, at least miles earned from a child’s flights will no longer go to waste.
*You can transfer up to 50,000 KrisFlyer miles from your child’s account to yours every calendar year. For every 5,000 KrisFlyer miles (or part thereof) transferred from your child’s account, you will be charged a fee of USD 5 or 500 miles. View full terms and conditions.
