@Sina Jiangsu: The "Yangtze River Delta Regional Integration Development Plan Outline" called for jointly building a world-class airport cluster. The positioning of the Nantong new airport, once rumored as “Shanghai’s third airport,” has now been clarified: it will become an important part of Shanghai’s international aviation hub. This means the airport will be considered together with the layout and planning of Shanghai’s aviation hub.

This airport will be located in Nantong, Jiangsu. Although it is being built in Nantong, it will in practice serve Shanghai more, and it is very close to Chongming Island. Authorities seem to all refer to it as “Shanghai’s third airport.”

Once this airport is completed, Nantong will also become, after Shanghai, Beijing, and Chengdu, a mainland city with two airports (P.S.: Xiamen is also building a second international airport).
