Sam's Club abruptly announced today that 63 stores across the U.S. will be closing, effective immediately. US News has provided a list of the affected locations.

Sam's Club's Response

To compensate affected members, Sam's Club is offering three options:

Add three months to your membership at no charge;
Receive a full refund of the membership fee on a Walmart/Sam's Club gift card; or
Receive a full refund of the membership fee by check.

Members must make their selection by March 31 via this link. It appears you may be eligible for compensation whether or not your local store is closing.

What should you do?

If you have a lot of cashback in your account, we suggest taking the free 3-month extension. Otherwise, we recommend getting the refund and then rejoining Sam's Club using the new-member AMEX Offer. As long as you rejoin by January 31, you can also earn 2,500 Membership Rewards points or $25.
