[Update] Sable’s Chinese name has changed. It’s now something much more classical: the Diaochan Card (it used to be called the Cheetah Card). Not sure whether that’s because it has a lot of users in China. Sable is still pretty decent: it supports remote applications for B1/B2 visa holders, provides estatements (they’re ugly, but should work), requires a scanned visa, and you can apply directly for family members. It’s also switching partner banks recently, so card replacement is mandatory. The new bank is:
Your debit card is issued by Coastal Community Bank (“Coastal Community” or “Bank”) , an FDIC insured depository institution, pursuant to a license by MasterCard International.
Thanks to reader FFFFFFFFFF for providing this information.
Sable, Cheetah, [now called the Diaochan Card] is one of the few US online banks that supports remote account opening for users without an SSN, and it offers a real Checking account. KUKU has always wanted to introduce a few ways to open a US bank account remotely, so readers can help family members back home apply for a US Checking account, but I’ll keep putting that off for a while.
Today I received an email from Sable saying it will soon launch cashback and new benefits, and it’s still free. That sounds a bit too good to be true. You need to accept the new Terms, and Sable will forcibly replace your card. If you need to change your address, you need to do so before November 5. My guess is that the new cards will start mailing on November 6.
