Qatar Airways recently launched a points transfer bonus promotion. From now through June 30, 2023, eligible members can receive a 30% bonus on transferred points. A total of 28 banks are participating, but most are in the Middle East or restrict participation for members in other countries. For US members, the only ways to participate are by transferring Citi ThankYou Points or HSBC points to Avios. Keep in mind that Qatar Airways says it may take up to 45 days after the promotion ends (that is, after August 14, 2023) for the bonus Avios to post to your account. In practice, though, bonus points often arrive sooner.
These Avios are flexible and can be used to book awards through Qatar, British Airways, and other programs. You just need to link your accounts to Avios, then use Avios as the bridge to move points between programs.
In addition, Qatar Airways will award 100,000 bonus Avios to 10 members who participate in this promotion. Although Qatar describes this as a sweepstakes, the terms and conditions clearly state that the 10 members who transfer the most points during this promotion will each receive an extra 100,000 Avios. If you transfer points in large volume, this could be worth going for—100,000 Avios is worth at least $1,000.
