A new quarter has begun, so what deals do the major rotating-category rewards cards have for us this time?

Discover it’s 5% quarterly bonus category for 7.1-9.30 is home improvement stores, department stores, and Amazon! From 7.1-9.30, you can earn 5% cash back on up to the first $1,500 in purchases with your Discover it card in these three categories. The specific merchant list is below:

If you enrolled in Discover’s Double Cash Promotion last month, then purchases at the merchants above will earn you 10% cash back! Shopping on Amazon (Amazon fans can also check out this guide to saving money on Amazon) or buying clothes and bags at Macy's basically means an extra 10% off—hard to beat.

If you don’t yet have a Discover card, you can apply through our site’s exclusive link. Once you get the card, you can register for the Double Cash Promotion, and after meeting the spending requirement you’ll get a $100 bonus! If your application is approved, we will also receive a referral bonus. Thank you for supporting US Credit Card 101.

Finally, don’t forget to register on this page before using your Discover card!

Be sure to register on this page, and then you can happily use it at gas stations and Kohl's. Note that the spending cap is $1,500; after that, you’ll earn only 1UR/$.

UR points can be redeemed at 1UR=1cent toward your credit card bill, gift cards, and more. For more on Chase UR points, see our earlier article:

There’s also another rotating-category card: Citi Dividend. Its Q3 5% categories are:

Don’t forget to activate the 5% cash back here.

This card is pretty interesting: you can’t apply for it directly, but you can get it by downgrading from another Citi card. Also, unlike Freedom and Discover, which have a quarterly cap, Dividend only has an annual cash back cap of $300. In other words, you could spend $6000 this quarter on airfare and Hilton hotels, or spend $6000 next quarter at Best Buy and department stores, and still earn 5% cash back.
