According to @中国政府网, at its annual consular-work media briefing on the 17th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that to improve consular services overall, overseas embassies and consulates will implement the following convenience measures starting Feb. 1 this year:
- Implement “global processing” for passports and further simplify the documents required for overseas Chinese citizens to renew or replace passports. Going forward, overseas Chinese citizens can apply for passport renewal or replacement at any Chinese embassy or consulate abroad;
- Remove the restrictions on replacing a passport for lost, stolen, or damaged passports by overseas Chinese citizens, and no longer require a 180-day stay abroad as a condition for replacement.
If it is a renewal, only the original passport nationality-status declaration, photo, and application form are needed. For replacements, a statement explaining the loss or damage is required.
