Introduction
Point Debit is a debit card that offers high rewards. Its 5% cashback categories include Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, and Whole Foods, and it also occasionally runs promotions like spend $200 and get $30 back. There are two new updates below. If you don’t have Point Debit yet, there is currently a $100 welcome bonus for opening an account. Here is the application link. For a more detailed introduction to Point Debit, please see this article.
Promotion Updates
[Update 2021.4.5] Point Debit has added 20% cashback at Delta, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, American Arilines, and JetBlue, with a cashback cap of $50, meaning you earn 20% on up to $250 in spending. The offer ends at 11:59pm PDT on 4/10. There is also 10% cashback at Sephora, also capped at $50, ending 4/11.
[Update 2021.3.1] Point Debit has added 10% cashback at Target, with a cashback cap of $50, meaning you earn 10% on up to $500 in spending. The offer ends at 11:59pm PDT on 3/6.
[Update 2021.12/1] The existing elevated rewards categories, including Amazon 5x, Best Buy 5x, Whole Foods 5x, Trader Joe's 5x, Costco 5x, etc., have all been extended through 12/19. The rewards cap is $50 (the Costco cap is $25). However, based on prior data points, new elevated rewards categories will probably be released again around 12/19. Note that the cap is actually a monthly cap, not tied to the elevated-rewards promotion period. The author cloud only discovered this after contacting customer service about an incorrect points balance.
[Update 2021.11.8] Point Debit has added 10% cashback at Whole Foods, Costco and Target, valid this week only (11/28). The usual rate is 5%.
[Update 2021.11.8] Point Debit has added 10x rewards at Target. The rewards cap is $50, meaning you earn 5,000 points on up to $500 in spending. The offer ends 11/14. The Nike 15% promotion added in the 11/1 update is still valid.
[Update 2021.11/1] Two promotion updates:
-
- Point Debit has added 15x rewards at Nike. The rewards cap is $50, meaning you earn a total of 5,000 points on up to $334 in spending. The promotion ends 11/21. The terms state that gift cards do not qualify. However, based on previous data points from the author and online, this has not been strictly enforced. Assuming gift card purchases do earn rewards, both online and in-store purchases should work, because online gift cards are also issued and managed directly by Nike. Nike gift cards at 15% off are a great deal, whether for personal use or resale. In addition, quite a few shopping portals are currently offering 10% cashback. Both Rakuten and Active Junky mention that gift cards do not earn cashback. RebatesMe does not seem to mention that gift card purchases are excluded, but YMMV. Tips:

- You can unlock it by spending $40+ each day. Another option is to do $1 Amazon reloads on the first 4 days, then spend $197+ on the fifth day;

【Update 2021.8/31】
- Point Debit added 15x rewards at Nike. The rewards cap is $50, meaning you can earn a total of 5000 points on the first $334 in spending. The offer ends on 9/6.
- The Terms state that gift cards do not qualify. However, based on the author’s own experience and prior online data points, this has not been strictly enforced. Assuming gift card purchases do earn rewards, both online and in-store purchases should work, since online gift cards are also issued and managed directly by Nike. Nike gift cards at 15% off are a very good deal whether you use them yourself or resell them. YMMV.

【Update 2021.8/24】

【Update 2021.8/23】
- Current bonus categories include Amazon 5x, Best Buy 5x, Whole Foods 5x, Trader Joe's 5x, Costco 5x, Food Delivery 5x, etc. All of them have been extended through 9/19, with a rewards cap of $50 (5000 points) during that period. Based on previous data points, new bonus categories will probably be released again as 9/19 approaches. So in effect, every 2–3 weeks there may be another round with up to $50 in bonus rewards (on up to $1000 in spending). This cap is likely more than enough for most people. If this rewards rate continues, Point Debit’s return is already better than that of most high-annual-fee credit cards. If you haven’t jumped on board yet, it may be worth considering. Also, although the Terms say gift card purchases are not eligible for bonus rewards, based on data points from the author and some readers, gift card purchases have also earned the bonus rewards. YMMV.
- Costco 5x can be used in-store. My guess is that Costco’s in-store Visa-only rule applies only to credit cards, not debit cards. Data points came from readers JL and Jiangnan in the WeChat group.
