With the war in Iran, gas prices are currently elevated. If you drive a gas-powered car, OnePay’s new Wednesday gas promo is worth a look. The rules are simple: every Wednesday, when you buy gas through OnePay, you can get $1 back per gallon, up to 50 gallons. OnePay also offers its own varying gas cashback, and that can stack. In some cases, this deal can also be stacked with gas station rewards and credit card cashback. OnePay is a debit card.

If You Don’t Have a OnePay Card

Option 1: You can go to a Walmart store and use a debit card or cash to buy a OnePay reloadable card, then go to OnePay to download the mobile app and sign up. That card will be your debit card.

Option 2: You can also sign up on the website using our link, and the card will arrive by mail eventually (but that’s okay—you can still buy gas and enjoy the discount today). If you sign up through our link, you can also get an extra $50 account opening bonus by setting up direct deposit of $500 or depositing $5,000!

Offer Details

Under OnePay’s current promo terms, you can get $1 back per gallon every Wednesday, up to 50 gallons per week, and you can use it up to two times per day. This offer will run through September 15.

At current gas prices of around $4 per gallon in many parts of the US, that works out to roughly a 25% discount. For frequent drivers, this is already one of the more competitive publicly available gas deals lately.

Which Gas Stations Work Based on Recent Testing

The official list of partner gas stations changes over time, so support may vary by region.

However, based on the author’s recent testing, many Chevron and Shell locations can use the OnePay gas discount normally. For most users, if there are major chain gas stations nearby, the odds of finding a supported location are fairly good.

The safest approach is still to check supported merchants nearby in the OnePay app.

The Real Value Is in Stacking

A lot of people assume at first that you can only pay with your OnePay balance.

In reality, OnePay Wallet supports adding credit cards, and at some gas stations, even if the final payment goes through a linked credit card, you can still receive the gas cashback offered by OnePay. To do this, tap the “Cash Control” tab below, choose “Wallet cards,” and add your credit card there. Note: the Chase Freedom series earns 5x points on gas this quarter.

That means OnePay’s $1-per-gallon offer does not necessarily have to be your final discount. You may be able to earn gas station loyalty rewards, credit card rewards, and OnePay’s gas cashback at the same time.

Using Shell and Chevron as examples, if you also stack Fuel Rewards, gas station membership promos, or a high-rewards gas credit card, the total value can be even better.

In the author’s actual use, after factoring everything in, it may be possible to save close to $1.50 per gallon.

Of course, gas prices and station policies vary by region, so the actual discount will differ, but OnePay’s base $1/gallon offer is already attractive enough on its own.

Summary

If you already use OnePay, it makes sense to plan at least one gas fill-up on Wednesday. Even without considering any other rewards, $1 back per gallon is already worth it; if you can also stack a credit card and a gas station loyalty program, the overall value is even better.
