By the way, I checked KUKU’s, too—what?! Grand Platinum became Gold?
Some readers said they had previously contacted customer service, and support said it would be a step-by-step downgrade, but in reality anyone who did not reach Platinum-level stay-nights in 2019 gets downgraded to Gold.
In the middle of this global pandemic, Marriott, one of the biggest players in the hotel industry, is also taking the lead on doing the least fair thing.
A few of us thought Marriott would likely extend memberships, but this downgrade came out of nowhere today.
Some readers also said their UA Silver membership disappeared along with Marriott Titanium.

All we can do is continue to support the relatively smaller hotel groups that provide good service—industry concentration and monopolies are never good.
An account holder in China checked with Marriott support and confirmed that they are indeed no longer following a tier-by-tier downgrade policy. H/T: 与君乐悠游。
For Marriott to do this without any prior announcement, and to do it while everyone is unable to travel during the pandemic, is truly too much.
