Marriott Bonvoy recently launched a buy-points promotion with a 45% points bonus, bringing the cost down to as low as 0.86c/p (the best deal is buying 217,500 Marriott points for $1,875). If you happen to need some points for an award booking, this could be worth considering. At this price, the cost is basically in line with the value you can get when redeeming them. If you can use the Stay 5, Pay for 4 benefit on a five-night award stay, buying points can make even more sense. This promotion ends on March 30.

Just buy up to $1,875

Things to know about buying points:

  • You must have been a Marriott Bonvoy member for at least 30 days before you can purchase points.
  • Each account can purchase up to 100,000 points per year (excluding bonus points).
  • The standard price is $125 for 10,000 Marriott points, but the recent historical low has been just 0.78 cents per point, usually available for around $83 to $89.
  • Points expire after 24 months, but as long as there is any qualifying points activity during that period, the expiration date will automatically be extended by another 24 months.
  • You can also have family members buy points in their own accounts and then transfer them into one account.
