Marriott’s 2016 MegaBonus promotion is back! Since this annual targeted Marriott promotion is quite generous, it’s worth a look whether or not you’re a frequent Marriott guest. Because this is a targeted offer, the promotion you receive may differ from what others get. The FlyerTalk MegaBonus 2016 thread has already listed the common offers.

Marriott MegaBonus 2016 Offers
Offer 1:
This is the offer I received, and I’d guess it’s also the one most people got: stay at Marriott hotels twice between February 1, 2016 and May 15, 2016, and get one free night certificate valid at Category 1-5 Marriott hotels. After completing this offer, you will receive a new offer.
Offer 2:
Stay 15 nights between February 1, 2016 and May 15, 2016 to earn 10,000 Marriott Rewards points. Each additional night earns 2,000 points, up to a maximum of 20,000 points. After completing this offer, you will receive a new offer.
Offer 3:
Stay 20 nights between February 1, 2016 and May 15, 2016 to earn 15,000 Marriott Rewards points. Each additional night earns 3,000 points, up to a maximum of 30,000 points. After completing this offer, you will receive a new offer.
Key Terms
Eligible stays must be paid stays, so award stays booked with points do not count. They must also be point-earning stays, such as stays booked through Marriott official channels or GDS. Marriott Vacation Club is excluded, but Ritz Carlton stays do count. Also note that consecutive nights at the same hotel count as just one Stay, even if you check out and check back in. The free night certificate is non-transferable, will be issued 3-5 business days after completing the requirement, and expires 6 months after issuance.
Should You Go for It?
I think most non-frequent Marriott guests will receive the first offer, while frequent Marriott guests, depending on status, may get other offers like Offer 2 or Offer 3. For people who got the first offer, if you’re already planning a hotel stay and Marriott is one of your options, and the rate isn’t outrageously expensive, I highly recommend taking advantage of this promotion. In theory, you could do two very cheap stays and redeem the free night for one night at a Category 5 hotel, which is often worth around $100-200, or 25,000 Marriott Rewards points. Of course, the follow-up offer you receive after completing this one could also be quite valuable, so once more data points are available, you can evaluate the overall value more fully. That said, since the free night certificate expires after 6 months, if you don’t expect to travel anytime soon, you may want to skip this round.
For those who received Offer 2 or Offer 3, if you can complete the requirement, the offer works out to roughly 700 Marriott Rewards points per night. Unless you go beyond the threshold requirements, the return isn’t especially strong, so it’s mainly worth considering if you already need the stays. In any case, registration is free, so there’s really no downside. I’d recommend everyone register for MegaBonus anyway—you never know when it might come in handy. What offer did you get? Share it with everyone in the comments.
