This extra $1,500 promotion expires on March 11, so register ASAP. Right now, both new and existing customers can deposit funds and keep them there for 90 days to earn up to an extra $1,500 bonus. That works out to roughly an extra 4%–6% annualized return. The account is currently earning 3.65% APY, so combined that is about 8% annualized over three months, which is quite good. Open the account first with a referral link to get a 0.25% APY boost, then participate in the deposit promotion.

This is a pretty good bonus, so I added it to the rankings.

Right now, if you open the account through a referral link, you can get an extra 0.25% APY for the first three months.

APY

The current APY is 3.65%, which is quite solid. This rate may change with market conditions. (This is the rate as of 2026.1; please check the website for the latest rate.)

Fees

This savings account has no monthly fee, no minimum deposit requirement, and no transfer fee (though other banks may charge one), which is very nice.

Also, the savings account used to have a limit of 6 transfers or withdrawals per month. That was removed because of covid and has not been added back.

Deposit Bonus

Marcus sometimes runs promotions like “Deposit $10,000 in new funds into a Marcus Online Savings Account and get a $100 cash bonus.” When these promotions are available, the timeline is laid out very clearly. See the beginning of this article.

Referral Bonus

One interesting feature of this account is that it offers referral rewards. Both the referrer and the referred customer can get an extra 0.25% APY for 3 months.

A few things to note:

  • You can refer up to 5 people per year.
  • The extra 0.25% APY cannot stack on top of itself; it can only extend the bonus period. For example, if you refer two people, you would get 6 months of the extra 0.25% APY.
  • The bonus is automatically applied to your account; no activation is required.

One more note: sometimes you may use a referral link but the referral does not track after account opening. This happened to cloud personally. In that case, you can contact customer service and ask them to add it manually; they will ask for the last 10 digits of the link. So when you click the application link on the blog, it may be a good idea to save the relevant application link. If the referral link tracks successfully, the final APY will show directly in your account, as below:

AARP Extra 0.1% APY

Marcus partners with AARP (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons). If you are an AARP member, you can get an extra 0.1% APY for two years. Don’t worry too much about the “retiree association” angle—membership is actually open pretty broadly as long as you pay the fee. That cost can be offset through a cashback site, so it can essentially be free; we explain below.

Click “enroll now” and log in to your Marcus account.

Then enter your AARP membership number on the page.

Then you will see the APY promotion, and you can see that it is valid for two years. Marcus really does a nice job of spelling out these promotions clearly.

Right now, if you sign up for an AARP membership through TopCashback, it only costs $12 per year, and you can also get $12.6 cashback.

You may even be able to get a free USB hub or organizer pouch.

As you can see, the cashback posted at $12.6, so you come out $0.6 ahead.

I would suggest turning off auto renew after that. The Marcus promotion will continue for two years once activated anyway.

Other Features

If you initiate an ACH transfer into Marcus from another bank on the Marcus side, the money may take some time before it becomes available, but Marcus says interest starts accruing from the day the transfer is initiated even if the funds are not yet available. That is a nice little feature.
