About Macmeanoffer

There have been lots of phone deals lately, with plenty of discussion around them. Using trade-in strategies to buy Cricket’s iPhone SE2 could even leave you ahead with a $100+ Apple gift card. See also:

A WeChat reader, “Sell JetBlue credit $100 at 60%,” mentioned a third-party trade-in platform, Macmeanoffer. As the name suggests: Mac-Me-An-Offer. This company belongs to Mac of All Trades. You can check the following reviews:

This company specializes in buying back Apple devices and supports trade-ins for nearly all Apple products. Prices are usually a bit higher than Apple’s own trade-in values. At the moment, it is still unclear whether locked phones are eligible for direct trade-in.

One of the appraisal factors is battery condition. If the value difference is significant, you may want to consider replacing the battery before requesting a quote.

Example Trade-In

For a brand-new iPhone SE2, the buyback price is $220 (cash), which is slightly better than the Apple Store’s $210 (Apple gift card). However, we still do not know whether locked phones are accepted, so we need more DP or confirmation from customer service.

WeChat reader @番薯 requested a quote for an unused Mac, with the following details:

  • Purchased in 2014 for 485 AUD, basically sitting at home as e-waste
  • Before trading it in, spent $70 at the Apple Store to replace the battery
  • Macmeanoffer’s quote was $280 (with battery condition selected as best)

Trade-In Process

The process is fairly simple. You can just follow the steps one by one, as shown below:

Macmeanoffer covers the shipping cost for sending the item in for inspection.

After inspection is complete, payment can be sent by Check or deposited to your PayPal. If the final offer does not match your expectations and you choose not to proceed, or if you need the item returned, you will need to pay return shipping yourself. Based on reader DP, unless the device is brand new, Macmeanoffer will generally trim the price a bit from the initial estimate.

Summary

A few things to keep in mind:

  • It is still unclear whether locked phones can be traded in
  • The process is more complicated than trading in directly with the Apple Store

Overall, we do not recommend prioritizing locked phones for this platform, since it is both more troublesome and still uncertain whether they are accepted. We’ll let the brave early adopters test that first.

This platform is mainly suitable for people who have unused Apple devices at home that are hard to throw away and hard to sell, and want to turn them into cash.
