There seems to be an IHG bug right now: many Holiday Inn award nights are pricing at a fixed 20,000 points, while properties with dynamic award pricing such as Kimpton and IC appear to be capped at 35,000-45,000 points. You may want to quickly search the destinations you’re interested in to see whether any bugged pricing is available. Below are a few bugged prices found in New York (normally $300+).

Because points bookings can usually be canceled anytime up to a few days before check-in, it may make sense to book first and decide later. If you already have an existing reservation for the same trip, you could book this bugged rate first, wait to see whether it sticks, and then cancel your old booking. If you don’t have enough points, you can consider using c+p.
Based on the cash rate, this room would cost nearly $400.
Likewise, Kimpton and IC also seem to be affected by the bug, with pricing fixed at 45,000.
The original price is over $400.
