What is PointBreaks?
PointBreaks is a promotion offered by IHG Rewards Club in which members can redeem just 5,000 points for one night at select hotels, regardless of the hotel’s usual award price. Under normal circumstances, redeeming an award night at an IHG property costs 10,000-50,000 points. So for some hotels, this promotion is effectively a 90% discount on points redemptions.

Highlights among this quarter’s participating hotels?
I have not found many standout properties so far. Even the participating IC properties are in places that chanye says he had no idea where they were... awkward.
InterContinental (IC)
INTERCONTINENTAL REAL SANTO DOMINGO is in the Dominican Republic on the Caribbean coast. If you are planning a vacation there, it could be a good option.
Also: the Dominican Republic offers 30-day visa-free entry to holders of valid US visas, Canadian visas, or Schengen visas.
INTERCONTINENTAL MARACAIBO is in Venezuela.
How do you redeem?
Method 1
Just search for a hotel from this PointBreaks list directly on the IHG website.
If the hotel has standard award availability on your date, the 5,000-point-per-night rate will be displayed.
Method 2
On the map shown above, click the hotel you want to book, then click that hotel’s link in the pop-up menu.
Then find the booking box on the hotel page, choose your dates (make sure they fall within the promotion period), click “more option,” change “rate reference” to “reward nights,” and then click “BOOK”.
If the hotel still has award availability for that date, the 5,000-point-per-night rate will appear. Click “BOOK THIS ROOM” and log in to your IHG account to complete the reservation.
Bottom line
PointBreaks is one of IHG’s signature promotions. It is roughly equivalent to getting a night for $35, and it can be an excellent value no matter what tier of hotel you book.
