Earlier this week, we shared that IHG had already started using dynamic pricing for award redemptions at its hotels, but when using the free night certificate offered by Chase IHG, errors were occurring and bookings could not be made directly online or by phone. Now, after TPG contacted IHG, the company says this is just a system bug and it is being fixed. The certificate can be used for hotels costing 40,000 points!
“Members are able to redeem their Chase Anniversary Night for any hotel displaying 40,000 points or fewer. However, we have discovered a technical glitch causing an intermittent issue for some users that does not allow them to redeem the certificate at certain properties. The team is actively working to resolve this issue.”
Once the fix is in place, everyone can start booking various IHG hotels at the 40,000-point level, before prices rise dynamically again after the pandemic eases. In any case, the certificate can be canceled directly, so there’s really no downside.
