The extension has now taken effect. However, just as IHG said officially, only Free Night certificates newly issued in 2021 have been extended into 2022. Free Night certificates from 2020 that had already been extended to expire in 2021 have not changed and will still expire at the end of 2021, so make sure to use them.
IHG sent out an email saying that IHG elite status will be automatically extended through February 2023, and Free Night certificates earned in 2021 will be extended through December 31, 2022. These extensions will be applied automatically in your account, so there is nothing you need to do. One important detail: according to the announcement, only Free Night certificates newly earned in 2021 will be extended, so Free Night certificates from 2020 that had already been extended to the end of 2021 will most likely still expire! Be sure to check the updated expiration date.
