World of Hyatt and Air Canada Aeroplan have officially launched a partnership. After linking the two accounts, members can participate in status challenges, transfer points, and receive extra benefits.
The most notable feature is the Hyatt status challenge:
Aeroplan 25K, 35K, 50K, 75K, and Super Elite members, as well as eligible Aeroplan Premium credit card holders, can receive 90 days of temporary Hyatt Discoverist status after registering, and then earn the following status based on the number of qualifying nights stayed during that period:
• Stay 4 nights: Hyatt Discoverist
• Stay 10 nights: Hyatt Explorist
• Stay 20 nights: Hyatt Globalist
The status earned through the challenge is valid until the end of the year in which you register, plus 14 additional months. Registration must be completed by December 31, 2026; credit card bonus nights, promotional bonus nights, and similar nights do not count toward the challenge. Only qualifying nights actually stayed during the challenge period count.
Other partnership benefits include:
• Hyatt Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist members can earn up to C$20 in Air Canada flight credits each year after linking accounts
• Hyatt points can be converted to Aeroplan points at a 2:1 ratio, with a minimum transfer of 5,000 Hyatt points each time (not useful)
• Aeroplan elite members can convert back to Hyatt points at a 2:1 ratio (not useful)
• 50,000 Hyatt points can be exchanged for a flight reward voucher worth 30,000 Aeroplan points (depends on your needs)
• 25,000 Aeroplan points can be exchanged for a Hyatt Category 1-4 free night award; 75,000 points can be exchanged for a Category 1-7 free night award (depends on your needs)
• When staying at Hyatt, you can also choose to earn 500 Aeroplan points per stay, but you will forfeit the normal Hyatt points (not useful)
In addition, Hyatt Explorist and Globalist members will also be able to earn Aeroplan elite status through a future 90-day challenge, but this feature is not expected to launch until fall 2026, and the specific challenge requirements have not yet been announced.
Overall, the most valuable part of this partnership is that Aeroplan members can use a 20-night challenge to reach Hyatt Globalist status. The points transfer ratios in both directions, as well as the free night award exchange ratios, are generally poor. Unless your points are about to expire or you have a specific redemption need, this is not something we would recommend using.
