【11/27 Update】 The deal is dead, and I hope this post gets a chance to meet everyone again next time. Let’s sum up the experience so everyone will be prepared for the next time there’s a bug price:
- How much is the bug price: 100 Hilton points = $0.5 (the normal rate is $0.2, so it’s not worth it)
- What should you redeem for: I recommend going all in on Amazon gift cards. When buying, it’s best to keep each order under $500 to ensure fast shipment (over that, it may require a 30min-60min verification, or 12h verification outside business hours). If you buy physical items, there is a risk of cancellation after the deal dies.
- Is it worth it: It depends on whether you can get good value from Hilton points. On average, getting 0.5c is not a problem. If you can use points with the 5th-night-free benefit, or if the taxes where you stay are very high (points are tax-free), or if the stay is very expensive (New Year’s Eve in Times Square, overwater villas in the Maldives), then you should not redeem. If you don’t really have any stay needs and haven’t used Hilton points for years / have too many, I suggest redeeming them.
- When will this happen again: Ask the Hilton/Amazon coders
- Anything else: Sometimes there are transfer bonuses, such as the current 30%-50% bonus for transferring AMEX MR to Hilton. That means up to 1 MR = 3 Hilton = 1.5c Amazon. Personally, I think 1.5c is still a reasonable redemption, especially if you have too many MR points. Of course, saving them for ANA business class is the first choice
About This Deal
Hilton points can once again be used to pay on Amazon at 0.5c/p, and you can buy anything. Before, it was 0.2c/p. Hilton points are generally worth around 0.5c/p on average, so now you can just use them on Amazon to get to that level without overthinking it. If you don’t have a near-term need to use Hilton points for hotel stays, just redeeming them and paying cash for Hilton hotels may be even more hassle-free. The redemption steps are as follows:
- Click the get started link to connect your Hilton account
- After clicking enroll, enter your Hilton account number and password, and you’re connected. You can see how many gift cards your points can be exchanged for.
- After linking, choose any item on Amazon, add it to your cart, then click change payment at checkout and select Hilton points.
- On the final checkout step, you can see the points applied toward the gift card
- I tested Amazon gift cards, and checkout worked normally. You can buy according to your own needs. Here are a few options below:
