This Thursday (12/05), Southeast Asian ride-hailing and payments giant Grab announced that it will launch Asia’s first numberless card, the GrabPay Card. The card is jointly issued by Grab and Mastercard, and users must first apply for a virtual card before they can receive the physical card. This card is actually very similar to the Apple Card, so the official announcement only calls it Asia’s first. After all, the Apple Card was the original numberless card globally. Its near-field payment partner (NFC) will be Samsung Pay. We expect to see more imitators in the future. It is also worth noting that both Apple Card and GrabPay Card are on the Mastercard network.
