First, a disclaimer: apps like Fetch Rewards most likely make money by collecting users’ spending patterns and selling that data to third parties for commercial use. After all, how else would they make money?
If you are concerned about personal information being shared, exposed, or sold to third parties, then you should not download apps like this.
PS: I’m basically a broke deal-hunter, so I personally don’t care if they look at my shopping habits.

Latest Update
Burger King and Papa Johns Pizza are offering 1000 points on a $10 purchase and 2500 Pts on a $25 purchase, respectively. There is also another 100 Pts offer per transaction that can stack. That works out to about 10% back.
What Is Fetch Rewards?
There are already many rebate apps on the market that let you buy certain products and scan receipts for cash back, such as Ibotta APP. Fetch Rewards is another app that gives you points for uploading receipts. The receipts here mainly refer to Grocery Store receipts. For example, I tried scanning a McDonald’s receipt and it was rejected. The redemption value is 1000 points = $1 in gift cards.
The app is currently available on both iPhone and Android.
Sign-Up Bonus
If you register for Fetch Rewards through our referral link and scan your first receipt, you can get an extra 2000 points (worth $2).
How to Earn Points
The main screen is shown below. Your available points balance appears in the upper-right corner.
Scan Receipts
Tap the camera icon in the lower-right corner to scan a receipt. If the receipt is too long, you can take multiple photos from top to bottom. Try to lay the receipt flat and keep your phone level so the picture is clear and the system can recognize it more quickly. Note that receipts must be dated within 14 days. Older receipts will be rejected.
- Note: every receipt earns 25 points no matter how much you spent, which is about $0.025.
Amazon Rewards
The e icon to the left of the camera is for scanning e-receipts. However, when I connected my Amazon account, the system still would not recognize my purchases. You can try it yourself; maybe I just had bad luck. In theory, once connected, it should automatically scan your Amazon purchases and award points based on them.
Earn Points by Brand
The Brands section shows participating brands. If your receipt includes those brands, you may receive bonus points. The rewards are small, but they can add up over time.
Special Offers
In the Special Offer section, buying specific products earns extra points. For example, this one gives 800 Bonus points for buying ice cream. These offers are usually much better than the standard receipt-scanning rewards, so if you were already going to buy the item, it can be worth scanning the receipt.
Redeeming Points
Redemption options are shown below:
The first option is magazines.
The second option is Sweepstakes, which I think have pretty low odds.
The third and most useful option is gift cards. In general, regular gift cards redeem at 1000Pts = 1USD. Some stores require a minimum of 3000 points, while others start at 5000 points. Visa gift cards redeem at a worse rate: 6000Pts for 5USD, 11500Pts for 10USD, 27000Pts for 25 USD, and 52500Pts for 50USD.
Activity Tracking
As the name suggests, this section shows how many receipts you have scanned, how much you have spent, and how much value you have earned from the app.
As you can see, I’m pretty frugal, so my spending is nowhere near that of big spenders.
Summary
- As mentioned at the beginning, if you are worried about your personal information being shared or sold to third parties for commercial use, do not download apps like this.
- Since this is just a small rewards app, do not expect huge returns from scanning receipts. I’ve already said the rewards are tiny. On average, I only redeem about $20 in gift cards per year. If you feel too busy to scan receipts yourself, it could be a simple task for a kid at home.
- You can only submit 14 receipts per week. Each submission must be for a receipt dated within the past 14 days.
- Most Grocery Store receipts are accepted. Walmart works fine, and Costco Gas also works. But my McDonald’s receipt was declined.
- Like many apps, this one also has a Referral program. The standard referral bonus is 2000Pts per person.
- Bottom line: even if the rewards are small, it only takes a moment to scan a receipt here and there, and you can still earn a few extra dollars over time.
