Today, Etihad announced a new award chart. The chart is split into two parts: one for Etihad-operated flights and one for partner-airline flights. Both are currently based on distance flown, and the two charts are fairly similar overall. In general, Etihad’s own chart is a bit more expensive than the partner chart. The new chart will take effect on March 10.

For comparison, we’re also including the previous ANA chart. You can clearly see a significant devaluation on long-haul routes... somehow these changes always seem to make things worse.
Etihad has emailed members to say that it will begin changing its partner award chart on March 10. After that, Etihad’s own award chart will be unified with the partner chart, and the miles required will be calculated by region. Right now, each partner airline has its own chart, with some priced by region and others by distance. We still do not know exactly what the new post-change chart will look like, but my guess is that this will most likely be another mileage devaluation.

In addition, after March 10, you will be able to book flights operated by American Airlines and Virgin Australia directly online using Etihad miles (currently these can only be booked by phone).
