Today, when I opened the Drop app, I noticed that Amazon’s earning rate had dropped from 20 points/$ to 5 points/$. Walmart and Target have also both been reduced to 5 points/$, meaning all three of these former point-earning favorites have been heavily devalued.

I also checked several of my other older Drop accounts and found that the linked offers had been removed entirely (basically nothing is left, unless there has been a purchase through Drop or a purchase with a linked offer within the past 12 months). On top of that, you now need to make a purchase before you can unlock point redemptions. We mentioned this before in a previous article; see here.

After taking a closer look, it seems this change was made sometime between November 16 and November 22. On 11/16, my Amazon BBR reload still tracked at 20X.

Drop is no longer the Drop it used to be. It has increasingly turned into a Shopping Portal-style cashback app. If you’re still using it, you may want to check your older accounts. After this change, aside from Starbucks (15X, about 1.5%; this is effective almost worldwide, and with DIP on an authorized user card you can get 3%) and shopping at HEB supermarkets (15X, about 1.5%), there’s not much left to earn.
