If you don’t already have a Discover Savings account, you can now open a new account by 10/31, deposit $5,000 by 11/15, and keep the money there for one month to easily earn a $100 bonus.

Details

You must open a Discover Savings account by October 31, then deposit $5,000 by November 15 and keep the funds in the account for 30 days to receive the $100 bonus. The bonus should post within 30 days after the money arrives. This account opening bonus is only for new Discover Savings customers (it’s unclear whether people who previously closed an account are eligible; data points welcome).

How to do it

  • First, click this link to go to the Discover Bank homepage. Click “Open an Account” in the upper right, then enter the required information to reach the page below:discover-checking-1
  • Enter SAVE3915 in the offer code field and click “Apply Code” to see the promotion:discover-saving-2
  • After filling out and submitting your information, you’ll get to the funding step. Although Discover only needs to receive the deposit by 11/15, it’s obviously most convenient to fund the account right when opening it. Discover only accepts checking/savings ACH, wire transfer (with fee), and check for funding; credit cards are not accepted. We recommend using ACH to transfer directly from an existing checking account, since it’s the easiest option and has no fee. Do not move the deposit out of the account or close the account within 30 days after the money arrives. Once you receive the bonus, you can do whatever you want with the account.
  • After completing the funding step and submitting, you should receive a welcome email within 24 hours.

Summary

Depositing $5,000 for one month to get $100 is equivalent to a 26.8% annualized return. Even though the amount is only $5,000, this is still a very good deal. After all, Discover Savings has no monthly fee, so there’s little downside to keeping the account open. If you can spare $5,000, it’s worth jumping on this account opening bonus before it ends at the end of the month. Do you know of any other ways to make money from opening checking/savings accounts?
