One very important detail: if the promo code is applied successfully at checkout, the final total will show a $0.01 deduction. Make sure you see that $0.01 reduction, because that confirms it worked. If you accidentally miss it, online customer service may be able to add it manually. During signup, you must enroll in auto renew for the membership (though it should be fine to cancel auto renew after you receive the rewards).

Costco membership is quite useful and can even be used in mainland China, although the shop card and coupon cannot be used in China. If your family in China shops at Costco, you could also get a membership for them to use.

Stack with cashback

If you click through Rakuten to Costco and complete the membership signup, you may be able to get an extra $10. However, since you need to enter a promo code when purchasing the membership, and this code was not found in Rakuten, there is a chance Rakuten will not track or honor it. Still, there is no downside to trying, and if it works, that is extra savings.

It is also rumored that the link to Costco in the Dosh APP has a $20 offer. If you have the app, it may be worth checking. As with Rakuten, whether you actually receive it is YMMV for the same reason.
