Costco has announced that after November 15, 2023, it will stop accepting Discover credit cards for online payments. Discover had already stopped being accepted in Costco warehouse stores earlier. For cardholders, there used to be a workaround: when a quarter offered 5% back at wholesale clubs, you could buy a Shop Card on costco.com and then use it in-store to effectively earn 5% at Costco. That workaround will no longer be possible.
If you really want to keep using that kind of strategy, you could buy a $500 Visa gift card at another wholesale club, such as Sam's Club. The fee is about 1%, and then you can use the Visa gift card to shop at Costco stores. If you have a quarterly 5% cash back category, giving up 1% in fees may still be worth it.
