According to the latest update, the CAAC announced on the 26th that starting June 28, passengers are prohibited from carrying power banks on domestic flights in China that lack a 3C (China Compulsory Certification) marking, have an unclear 3C marking, or are models that have been recalled. The measure is meant to strengthen flight safety and ensure safer travel.
After the notice was released, many passengers asked whether overseas travelers on China domestic flights also needed to comply. A CAAC official responded clearly:
- This measure applies only to power banks produced and circulated within mainland China, especially those that have not obtained 3C certification or have been recalled.
- Power banks carried by overseas travelers that are not within the above scope, for example those manufactured or sold abroad, are not subject to this notice.
Flights from the mainland to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, or international destinations are not subject to this measure, and travelers can continue to carry non-3C-certified power banks.
Airport enforcement varies
That said, in practice, many airport security checks do not differentiate between power banks sold in China and those sold overseas. They uniformly apply the same 3C rules. If you have a non-3C power bank, you may want to wait until enforcement details are fully finalized.
