Another year has arrived, but unfortunately the first piece of news this New Year is not good.
Back then, after opening a Citigold account, you could complete the initial funding with a credit card, and because Citi was very generous, the credit-card funding limit was $100,000. You could load the card at no cost, complete the account-opening spend, and earn points. Unfortunately, starting yesterday, this loophole has been closed. Citi no longer allows credit-card funding, effective immediately.

Official update

See FlyerTalk, Reddit and Flyerbbs posts. Citi has already issued an internal notice that credit-card first-time funding for Citigold has been stopped immediately.

Today, 2/9 Wife called to fund with exact same scenario at 12:15pm, CSR informed that CC funding is no longer accepted. HUCA. Next CSR confirmed that CC funding has been shut down effective immediately. Wife said that "she called at 9am to ask about CC funding process, it was allowed and I could call back when I have my CC handy". CSR apologized for conflicting info from citi reps, and that this took effect today, no exceptions can be made。

Another MS path has been blocked, RIP. Hopefully this doesn't ruin everyone’s New Year mood. How did you complete the account-opening spend? Drop your comments below.
