According to work arrangements, Chinese embassies and consulates in the United States will launch a new passport application process of “online application + in-person fingerprint collection.” After applicants submit a passport application order in the “China Consular Affairs” app and it passes review, they may schedule an appointment to visit the embassy or consulate’s document service hall for fingerprint collection. The embassy or consulate will then issue an electronic passport containing fingerprint information, so that the applicant may enter China via self-service immigration clearance.

For travel document applications for those under age 16, there is no change for now, and no in-person visit is required.
