Today is China’s 618 shopping festival, and China Eastern has launched its “Weekend Fly Freely” pass. For just ¥3322, you can fly on China Eastern flights within mainland China on weekends during the second half of the year (excluding Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan)!
Key purchase details:
- Scan the QR code to buy, or go to: https://ecmembers.ceair.com/mall/app/wildyourweekends.html
- After purchase, you must link it to a China Eastern account in the APP within 7 days
- You can buy it for someone else (must be age 12 or older)
- Limited quantity; once they’re gone, they’re gone
Basically, after scanning the code, you’ll probably just see that the server is down—try again later.
Key usage details:
- Must be a China Eastern-operated weekend flight
- You can have no more than 3 active flight segments in the APP at a time (in other words, you can’t book the entire second half of the year all at once—only up to 3 reservations maximum)
- Must be booked 5 days in advance, and can be canceled up to 4 days before departure
- The ticket itself is free, but taxes and fees are not waived (apparently usually around ¥50)
- Bookings go into X fare class, so you cannot earn miles, it does not count toward elite status, and elite members cannot upgrade
- This pass is valid through December 31, 2020
Who should consider buying it
- Commuters, long-distance couples, and students who go home often
- People planning to travel during National Day or similar holidays
- People planning trips to places like Xinjiang or Tibet
If you’re thinking about buying this for family members, make sure the airport near their home has plenty of China Eastern-operated flights to and from the destinations they need. Friends in Shanghai are especially lucky.
