[2019.7 Update] There’s now a Chase Offer that can actually make you money, so it’s worth checking your account. With this Chase Offer, subscribing to Amazon FreeTime earns $8 back. Amazon is currently offering three months of FreeTime for just 99, and after subscribing you can also get two kids headphones worth about $15 each for free. If you have this offer, spending $3 for two headphones is still a pretty good deal. Here are the steps:
- Log in to your Chase account and add this FreeTime offer
- In your Amazon payment settings, add the Chase credit card that you just added the offer to, and set it as the default payment method (very important! Otherwise it may automatically charge a different default card)
- FreeTime 3-month $2.99 link (after opening it, switch it to 3 months and make sure the price is $2.99)
- Select the 3-month plan. You should see that it only costs $2.99, and it also comes with one free kids headphone.
- Click subscribe. Note that once you click, it will automatically charge your default card. So make sure you change it, otherwise you’ll waste $3 for nothing...
- Then you’ll immediately receive an email explaining how to claim the free headphones.
- Go to the eligible free headphones page. You can add items up to $29.99 total; adding two $14.99 pairs is also a good option. At checkout you’ll see them come out free
- After a few days, you should see the $8 from Chase
About Chase Offer
Chase Offer is a new Chase program similar to AMEX Offer. It was previously tested for a while with Marriott, then mysteriously disappeared. This year it was repackaged and relaunched. Currently, eligible cards include:
- All Chase credit cards (all of my personal cards have it; business cards are unknown)
- Debit cards tied to Chase Checking accounts
How to Find Chase Offer
Download the Chase app now. After logging in, scroll all the way to the bottom and you should see it.
Once inside, you can choose offers by card, and each card may have different offers. Based on what I saw on my accounts, here are the patterns:
- Cards that haven’t been used in the past year don’t show any offers
- The more you use a card, and the more types of merchants you’ve used it at recently, the more offers you’ll see
- Offers are generally 5%-15% back, with fairly low caps. For example, Starbucks only had a $1.6 cap, Staples had $6, and Lowe's had $28. My guess is that each person’s cap may be different
- Specific offers may be related to your spending habits. For example, I had used my Hyatt card at Park Hyatt New York before, so I got related offers
You can now also log in to your Chase account on the website and view the offers under each card. The offers are not identical across cards. After adding an offer to one card, it will not disappear from another card. Some sock-drawer cards that haven’t been used for a long time have no offers, so it may be worth putting a charge on them and waiting for offers to show up.
How to Use It
I haven’t personally used it yet, but it should probably work similarly to the original version:
- Log in to your registered Chase Offer account and activate the offer you want
- Use the specified card at the specified merchant, and you should receive an email shortly after
- According to the email, you should receive the statement credit within 3-10 business days
Summary
Based on these offers, Chase Offer is probably using the same backend system as BofA Offer. However, the offers seem a bit better than what BofA has, and some of them are actually quite useful. If my guess is correct, buying gift cards should also trigger the offer.
