Chase recently rolled out a Kwiat Offer: spend $3,000 and get $1,000 back. Some people who used this offer received the following language, indicating that the $1,000 statement credit could be reversed if the order is returned or canceled. It also says that abusing offers like this may cause Chase to stop targeting you for future offers.

Offer valid one time only. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. Offer expires 9/30/2020. Payment must be made directly with the merchant. May not be combined with other promotions or discounts. Not applicable towards prior purchases. Abuse of offers may result in the exclusion from future offers.

I’m not entirely sure whether people using this offer were trying to get the $1,000 via a refund loophole or whether they really had a legitimate need for the purchase, but a large offer like this has clearly caught Chase’s attention. As I understand it, the backend for Chase Offers is the same as for BofA Offers, and with BofA Offers there have indeed been cases where people received cash back after making a purchase and the cash back was not clawed back after a refund.

In short, if you have some inside angle to try to get this $1,000, be careful. The amount is large enough that it could easily draw attention. It would be bad if it led to a full shutdown.
