Premium travel credit cards from major banks generally offer reimbursement for either Global Entry or TSA Precheck, helping speed things up both when entering the U.S. and at airport security. NEXUS goes a step further, since it also gives you access to Canada’s NEXUS fast lane when entering Canada. Interestingly, while Global Entry costs $100 and NEXUS costs only $50, NEXUS still includes the full Global Entry benefit. The annoying part is that even though it is cheaper, credit cards usually do not reimburse NEXUS.

In general, Global Entry and TSA Pre require you to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Citizens of some other countries are also eligible for Global Entry. NEXUS is also open to Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents.

That is about to change. The terms on several Chase credit cards were updated overnight, changing from Global Entry/TSA Pre reimbursement to Global Entry/TSA Pre/NEXUS reimbursement. Presumably, this was triggered by the launch of the Chase Aeroplan credit card.

Which credit cards reimburse NEXUS?

The Chase credit cards currently known to reimburse NEXUS are:

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve
  • Chase United Club Infinite
  • Chase United Quest
  • Chase Air Canada Aeroplan

Other Chase cards that reimburse Global Entry (for example, Chase IHG Premier) have not updated their terms yet. It may be worth waiting to see whether they will also add NEXUS reimbursement.

I already have TSA Pre/Global Entry. What should I do?

Even if you are already enrolled in these programs, you can still apply for NEXUS. Once approved, your benefits will automatically be “upgraded.”

NEXUS interviews are paused

Although these cards can now reimburse NEXUS, NEXUS interview appointments are temporarily unavailable due to the Omicron outbreak. NEXUS interviews must be completed at the U.S.-Canada border or at certain Canadian airports. If you are not in a hurry, you can wait and apply later. If you are planning to cancel your card, you could also apply and pay first, then complete the interview once appointments reopen.
