[5/24] According to a Chase source cited by DoC, the 5/24 rule has been in effect for credit card applications submitted on or after May 22. However, not all cards are affected, and some have survived for now. Cards now confirmed to be subject to 5/24 include Chase Ink, Chase United Explorer, Chase United Club, Chase Marriott, the Chase Southwest lineup, and their corresponding business cards. We welcome readers to continue sending us DP.
Chase’s own personal cards, including Freedom, Sapphire Preferred, and Slate, have already been subject to this policy since last year. The later-launched Freedom Unlimited and Sapphire Reserve are also included. Meanwhile, Chase’s own business cards—Ink Cash and Ink Plus—are also restricted by the 5/24 rule.
Subject to the 5/24 Rule
- Chase United (all versions of United credit cards),
- Chase Southwest (all versions of Southwest credit cards), and
- Chase Marriott (all versions)
It looks like the opportunity to apply for the Marriott travel package, as well as to get a free Companion Pass by applying for several Southwest cards, has basically disappeared.
Temporarily Not Subject to the 5/24 Rule
The good news is that some cards with very strong long-term value are still alive and should still be available.
- Chase IHG,
- Chase Hyatt,
- Chase British Airways,
- Chase Fairmont (grandfathered) ,
- Chase Ritz-Carlton,
- Chase Amazon and
- Chase AARP
In the short term, these unrestricted cards are not expected to suddenly become subject to 5/24, since these partners are the ones unwilling to join the restriction. So there is no need to rush to apply for them right now.
What do you think? Have you applied for any Chase cards recently?
