Which bank programs can transfer points?
Eligible U.S. bank points programs include:
- American Express Membership Rewards
- Capital One Miles
- Citi ThankYou Points
- Bilt Rewards
- Wells Fargo Rewards
- Brex Rewards
Capital One, Citi, Bilt, and Wells Fargo generally transfer at a 1:1 ratio, so with this 10% bonus, that works out to:
- Transfer 10,000 points, get 11,000 Asia Miles
- Transfer 50,000 points, get 55,000 Asia Miles
- Transfer 100,000 points, get 110,000 Asia Miles
Note that the base transfer ratio for AMEX Membership Rewards to Cathay Pacific has already changed to 5:4. After factoring in this bonus, transferring 1,000 AMEX MR only gets you 880 Asia Miles, which is still not a great value, so AMEX is generally not the best option for this promotion.
Hotel points are also eligible
Eligible hotel points programs include:
- ALL – Accor Live Limitless
- Best Western Rewards
- Hilton Honors
- IHG One Rewards
- World of Hyatt
- Shangri-La Circle
- Anantara Vacation Club
- Brilliant by Langham
- Dorsett – Your Rewards
Marriott Bonvoy is not included in this U.S. promotion. Also, most hotel points do not transfer to airline miles at a very good rate, so even with the extra 10%, it usually is not worth transferring just for the bonus.
Things to note
- This offer is only available to eligible Cathay members in the U.S.
- You must register on the offer page before transferring points from a bank or hotel program.
- Registration requires your Cathay membership number, name, and email address.
- You can earn up to 10,000 bonus miles, which means the bonus applies to transfers of up to 100,000 points into Asia Miles.
- The bonus miles may take up to 12 weeks to post after the regular transferred miles post.
- Bank points transfers are usually irreversible after they are sent, so it is not a good idea to transfer points without a clear redemption plan.
Bottom line
This Cathay Pacific transfer bonus covers multiple bank programs, rather than being limited to just one credit card points program. That said, the 10% bonus is only average in terms of value. If you have a specific Cathay Pacific or oneworld award redemption in mind, you can register for the promotion first and then transfer the miles you actually need. Even if you do not plan to transfer points right now, it is still worth taking a minute to register so you do not miss the bonus later.
