Check your account—you may have gotten it essentially for free! They often have these 100% cashback merchants, so it’s nice to check in every day after signing up. Right now, signing up also gets you a free $80. Gotta say, they’re really generous.

The current sign-up bonus is $80. According to the terms, you need to install their browser extension within 7 days, then use it occasionally over the next 90 days—just don’t delete it. There doesn’t seem to be any specific spending requirement. The bonus will be awarded at the 120-day mark (I tested it myself and already received the bonus). If you’re outside the United States, note that IP matters a lot, especially when redeeming rewards.

For either the Referrer or Refer-ee to be eligible for a referral bonus, the Refer-ee must install either the Shopping desktop or mobile extension in their primary browser with full permissions, and on a device in which the extension has never previously been installed. The Refer-ee must install the Shopping extension within 7 days of creating a Shopping User Account using a referral link. The Refer-ee must then regularly use the Shopping extension and shop as they normally would, on their primary browser and with full permissions granted, for 90 days following the installation date. The referral bonus will be automatically applied to the relevant accounts within 30 days after the Referrer and Refer-ee have satisfied all requirements. Uninstalling the Shopping extension or changing its permissions at any time during the trial period will prevent both the Referrer and Refer-ee from receiving a referral bonus.

About Capital One Shopping

Capital One Shopping is a cashback site acquired by Capital One. It was formerly known as Wikibuy and originally offered cashback and price protection services. It’s a cashback site and browser extension. Although it has the Capital One name, Capital One Shopping has nothing to do with Capital One bank accounts or credit cards, and you don’t need to have any related credit card or bank account. Cashback you earn is used directly in the cashback account and does not go into your credit card or bank account. In short, just treat it like a normal cashback site.

It’s worth noting that they often offer very generous sign-up bonuses. In the past, there have been bonuses of $75, $150, and $200—they really don’t hold back!

Basic features

Earning cashback

To earn cashback, just search for the relevant merchant on their homepage and open the merchant page to see the cashback rate.

Click Activate to go to the merchant. Then complete your purchase as usual, and Capital One Shopping will issue cashback based on the category of items purchased.

Extension alerts

If you have the browser extension installed, it will automatically remind you how much cashback is available when you visit the relevant merchant. For example, it will pop up when you visit marriott.com. Just click Activate.

You can also set in your account notifications when the extension should pop up. By default, it appears on the checkout page or merchant page.

Tracking

You can view your click history in your account. If cashback doesn’t track, you can contact customer service using the trip number here.

Tracked cashback will appear in My Rewards and Savings.

Redeeming cashback

This part is a bit stingy. At the moment, the cashback you earn, including the sign-up bonus, can only be redeemed for select gift cards, and the list changes over time. Redemptions start at $10 and go up to $500. Walmart gift cards used to be available, but they’re currently removed. If you’re not in a hurry, you may want to wait and redeem for a card that’s actually useful to you.

After redemption, gift cards are usually sent right away, but sometimes it can take 1-3 days. There are also data points online showing that some gift cards never arrived after redemption, so just keep that in mind.

Referral program

They often offer relatively high referral bonuses, but it seems the offer differs by user, so try to send the higher one to your friends if you can. If you just signed up, you may not see the referral page yet; you might need to make any purchase to activate the feature.

The cashback you earn is also added to this account. It can only be redeemed for gift cards and cannot be cashed out directly.
