On August 1 of this year, Capital One announced a 15% transfer bonus to Avianca LifeMiles for transfers made this month. Every 1,000 Capital One miles can be converted into 1,150 LifeMiles. The promotion ends on August 31, 2025.
While a 15% bonus is not especially compelling, it is still worth noting given that Capital One does not offer transfer bonuses like this very often. Avianca devalued its awards several times last year, but there are still quite a few attractive redemption options. As always, we recommend transferring points only when you are ready to book, rather than making a speculative transfer. This is especially important with Avianca, since LifeMiles expire after 12 months of inactivity unless you are a LifeMiles+ member.
Best Uses of Avianca LifeMiles
- Business class to Europe for 68,000-80,000 miles, with no fuel surcharges. While the pricing is not exceptionally low, the lack of fuel surcharges makes this option appealing.
- Business class to South America starting at 35,000 miles. Avianca LifeMiles offers very competitive pricing between North and South America, again with no fuel surcharges.
- Flights within North America starting at 7,500 miles. Avianca LifeMiles offers excellent value on one-way domestic United flights, with prices starting at just 7,500 miles.

- How to book awards: You can book online at LifeMiles.com, and bookings can also be made by email. Phone bookings are usually more of a hassle, but they are possible as well.

- LifeMiles expiration policy: miles expire after 12 months of inactivity. Redeeming miles does not count as activity, but buying miles does.
