Capital One’s limited-time $300 checking account bonus is here! You can apply directly using the link below. You need two direct deposits of more than $500 each within 75 days to activate it

This promo is pretty good, so I’ve added it to the bank bonus ranking.

There’s also a promo that doesn’t require direct deposit, but the bonus is only $250, which is a little less than the direct deposit offer. If you can’t complete the direct deposit requirement, this $250 offer is also a good choice. This one only requires 20 debit card purchases of more than $10 each, so it’s relatively much easier.

You can also get a $500 bonus by opening a Capital One Business Checking account, depositing $5,000 within 30 days, and keeping it there for 60 days. To avoid the monthly fee, you need to keep a $2,000 balance in the checking account.

You can also open a Capital One savings account and deposit funds to earn up to a $1,500 bonus. In addition, this savings account offers a 4.35% APY. If you have some extra cash, it may be worth doing.

The deposit amounts and corresponding bonuses are shown below. You need to deposit the required funds within 15 days after opening the account, and the deposited funds must remain for at least 90 days. The bonus will be paid within 60 days after the requirements are met.

Capital One bank overview

The Capital One 360 checking account is a Capital One bank product, from the same company as the Capital One credit cards. Capital One is an FDIC-insured bank and ranks around 9th or 10th in the U.S. by assets.

However, Capital One does not have branches nationwide. If you need cash, you’ll need to use its partner ATMs. Cash withdrawals are free, but cash deposits are not supported. That said, this account can be opened online, with no geographic restrictions.

[11/14/2020] Based on current DPs, transferring money in from Charles Schwab counts as direct deposit and is still fairly stable. Note that the code entry field only appears under the add funds section. See the image below ↓ (the promo code differs depending on the offer).

Basic Checking account incurs a $15 monthly service fee, which can be waived with a minimum balance of $2,000. Enhanced Checking account incurs a $35 monthly service fee, which can be waived with a minimum balance of $25,000.

Summary

Both the savings account and checking account have no monthly fee, so they’re still pretty friendly. The requirements are also relatively easy to meet, and the process is straightforward, so if you have the bandwidth, it’s worth a try. Note that NRA users can’t open an account online, and the bonus will be reported on a tax form, usually 1099-INT.
