British Airways is now offering a tier match promotion, with matches available all the way up to Gold status. BA elite status also gets you access to AA lounges, so if that would be useful to you, this could be an easy one to match to.
To keep the status, you need to fly either two one-way flights or one round-trip within six months, and the flights must meet the following requirements. Honestly, paying cash for business class or first class is still pretty expensive...
- Be a British Airways-marketed flight in business (Club World) or First
- Be operated by British Airways, American Airlines, Iberia or Finnair
- Originate from the US, Canada or Mexico
- Fly to the UK and onwards to Europe
