How Bilt Works for Rent and Mortgage Payments
After the update, there are two ways to pay rent or mortgage with the Bilt card.
- Fee-free mode: paying rent or mortgage does not require a fee. However, you can also redeem Bilt Cash to earn Bilt points. For every $3 of Bilt Cash redeemed, you get 100 points, up to a maximum amount of points equal to your rent payment. For example, on $100 rent, you can redeem up to 100 Bilt points, which corresponds to only $3 of Bilt Cash.
- Maximum-points mode: paying rent or mortgage requires a 3% fee, but using the Bilt card earns 1x points. Your Bilt Cash will automatically cover the fee. For example, if you pay $100 in rent, you can earn 100 points directly, but there is an extra $3 fee. If you have enough Bilt Cash on hand, it will simply be used to cover that $3. If not, the extra amount will be charged to your Bilt card.
In either case, you cannot earn extra Bilt points; the total is capped at the rent or mortgage amount. The only difference is how Bilt Cash is used, so the distinction is not very significant.
Bilt Points Overview
Bilt points can be transferred to multiple airline miles and hotel programs, such as Hyatt, United Airlines, Alaska, and more. They are still very valuable! We value them at 1.6 cents per point. For details and usage, see
Bilt Cash Overview
Bilt Cash earned here is different from points; it cannot be redeemed for cash or transferred. The official redemption options currently include:
- Redeem for rent or mortgage fees: for every $30 in fees redeemed, you get 1,000 Bilt points. For example, if you pay $1,000 in rent and have a $30 fee, you can use $30 in Bilt Cash to redeem it, and then you will receive 1,000 Bilt points. Only Bilt cardholders can redeem this.
- Improve your Bilt membership tier, giving you better benefits on rental day
In addition, Bilt-related services and third-party services can also be redeemed, though the rates are unknown:
- Bilt’s luxury hotel collection
- Exclusive Bilt experiences: redeem Bilt Cash to book exclusive experiences like dining reservations, fitness classes, comedy shows, and more.
You can also redeem the following everyday purchases, likely at 1:1 (dollar-for-dollar):
- Hotel bookings: apply Bilt Cash toward hotel bookings made in the Bilt Travel Portal.
- Lyft credits: redeem for Lyft credits and get where you’re going for less.
- Fitness Classes: use Bilt Cash toward bookings in the Bilt App and save on your favorite workouts.
- Dining: use Bilt Cash to pay your tab when you use Mobile Dining check-out at select Bilt partner restaurants.
- Home Delivery: save on everyday essentials ordered through Home Delivery, powered by Gopuff.
- The Bilt Collection: redeem Bilt Cash for select items and limited drops from the Bilt Collection.
But Bilt Cash expires every year, with only the portion below $100 rolling over. That’s still pretty rough.
- Bilt Cash earned during 2026 will expire at the end of the year, except that up to $100 of Bilt Cash will roll over to the following year.

My Take
This card is Bilt’s premium card. The hotel credit is now $200 every six months, which still has some value if you can use a two-night stay. It also gives $200 Bilt Cash every year; if you can use it all, that basically offsets the annual fee. The Priority Pass benefit is fairly standard, with the 1+2 setup.
If you’re coming over from an old Bilt card, I strongly recommend choosing this one. After all, the 50,000-point + $300 Bilt Cash sign-up bonus makes it worthwhile even if you downgrade after one year!
How to Apply
- Existing users who apply to switch to this card before January 30 will not trigger a hard pull, but it will still create a new account
