About the Hilton Beijing

The Hilton Beijing is located in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, near the Yansha commercial area and Liangmaqiao Station on Metro Line 10. It is only about a 20-minute drive from Beijing Capital International Airport, with convenient access to major tourist attractions, office buildings, and entertainment venues. The hotel has 506 guest rooms and offers attentive service and solid hospitality for a comfortable stay in Beijing, whether you are traveling for work, leisure, or relaxation.

The main reason we chose this hotel was that we needed to go to the U.S. Embassy in Beijing to apply for a U.S. passport for our child. It was incredibly convenient since it was only a 10-minute walk from the hotel. If we forgot to bring anything, we still had time to walk back and get it. We’ll share more about the passport application process in the next article.

You can take the subway here from Beijing South Railway Station. After getting off, there’s still a bit of walking, but it’s manageable.

Booking and Check-in

The hotel is located along the 3rd Ring Road, so rates are not especially high. If paying cash, the after-tax rate is a little over 1000RMB per night. Award redemptions cost 40,000 points per night, which works out to only about 0.3c/p in value, so it may only make sense if you have more points than you know what to do with.

At check-in, I mentioned that I was a Diamond member and was upgraded to an executive room. In reality, it was only about a dozen square meters larger than a standard room. That said, it didn’t matter much since we weren’t spending much time in the hotel anyway. The pool was closed for maintenance, otherwise that would have been nice to try. There are two buildings: one is more than 20 stories tall, while the older building has a total of 9 floors. Our executive room was in the older building.

Stay Experience

  • The bathroom felt somewhat dated overall, and the toiletries were from Crabtree & Evelyn.
  • The room setup was pretty standard, with the usual bed-and-desk combination, and the heating/air system still used an old-fashioned dial control.
  • The welcome amenity was fruit and sparkling water.
  • The bed did feel a bit small.
  • Since we were only on the 8th floor, the view outside was pretty unremarkable.
  • There was an apartment building directly across from us.

Lounge and Breakfast

Diamond members receive complimentary breakfast for two and lounge access. Breakfast leaned Western overall, with an average selection, though the beef noodles were decent.

The lounge is on the third floor. A proper meal is only served in the evening from 6-8 pm; at other times, it’s mostly cookies, fruit, drinks, and similar snacks.

  • The Christmas tree was pretty nice.

Bottom Line

The real draw of this hotel is the location. Aside from that, it was very average overall. There were quite a few foreign guests staying here, which makes sense given how close the hotel is to multiple embassies.

One annoyance worth mentioning: only the first floor had an indicator showing where the elevators were. The other floors had no display at all, so waiting for an elevator could take quite a while. Out of the four elevators, one was even under repair.
