The welcome bonus has increased to 100,000 points. You need to spend $1,000 in 90 days to earn 45,000 points; the remaining 55,000 points require $500+ in Wyndham hotel purchases within 180 days. This card also gives you 15,000 points every year just for holding it, so it can be worth keeping long term if you can use the benefits. It also comes with top-tier Diamond status.

In addition, this card has gone through quite a few benefit changes, and the annual fee has also increased. Specifically:

  • The annual fee increased from $95 to $149
  • The 8x on gas has been removed and reduced to 5x
  • New 5x categories were added for travel, gas charging, market, advertising, office supplies, and shipping, while Utilities 5x was removed
  • The points redemption discount increased from 10% to 20%, which is quite nice!
  • A new option to redeem points for Statement Credit was added, but the rate is unknown and probably not very good
  • $50 annual food delivery credit, split into $25 every six months
  • New $50 annual bookkeeping software credit
  • New $65 annual Wholesale Membership Club Credit

Overall, if you stay with Wyndham often, this business card is an easy long-term keeper. The 15,000 points every year plus the 20% points redemption discount alone are already quite solid.

  • "New" go free® Faster: 10% discount when redeeming points for Wyndham hotels
  • Annual benefit: After paying the annual fee each year, receive 15,000 points (worth about $145)

Cons

  • Wyndham has a huge footprint of roadside properties in North America, but many are average in quality, so redemption value is often not very high

Wyndham Program Overview

  • Uses a tiered award chart (three levels: 7,500 / 15,000 / 30,000 points), with an average redemption value of about 0.9 cents per point (10,000 points redeemed for about $90 in hotel value on average)
  • In addition to standard points redemptions, Wyndham also offers Points + Cash redemptions priced at 3,000 points plus the corresponding cash amount
  • Wyndham performs fairly well in Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Asia-Pacific (excluding Super 8 and Days Inn). Wyndham Hotels & Resorts formed a partnership with Caesars in June 2017, so redeeming for Caesars properties can be worth considering

I searched Las Vegas hotels for a full day and you can see that there are still quite a few high-value properties at the 15,000-point level. Getting 1 cent per point or better is not hard.

Bottom Line

If you can make good use of Wyndham stays, this card offers excellent value. The highest 8x earning rate is roughly equivalent to about 7% back, and the 15,000 points you get every year are worth around $145, which is already more than the annual fee. On top of that, the complimentary Wyndham Diamond status can also be leveraged into several other elite statuses:
