In accordance with the latest requirements from the relevant Chinese authorities, the specific pre-departure testing arrangements for travelers departing for China from the consular district of the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. have been reviewed and updated again. Travelers taking a direct flight from Dallas to China on or after January 13, 2022 should follow these requirements.

Direct Flight Options

Since December 23, 2020, both Chinese and foreign passengers departing from the U.S. for China by air have been required to complete sample collection and testing at designated institutions in the flight departure city, submit test certificates and other materials online to the appropriate Chinese Embassy or Consulate in the U.S., apply for a health code, and check in within the validity period of that health code. At present, Chinese embassies and consulates in the U.S. issue health codes only to passengers traveling on direct U.S.-China routes. As of now, the direct routes between the U.S. and China and the embassy/consulate responsible for reviewing health code applications are as follows (actual flight operations are subject to airline information):

  • American Airlines: AA 127 (Dallas → Shanghai), reviewed by the Chinese Embassy in the U.S.
  • Delta Air Lines: DL 283 (Detroit → Shanghai), reviewed by the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago; DL 287 (Seattle → Shanghai), reviewed by the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco.
  • United Airlines: UA 857 (San Francisco → Shanghai), reviewed by the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco.
  • Air China: CA 988 (Los Angeles → Beijing/Tianjin) and CA 770 (Los Angeles → Shenzhen), reviewed by the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles.
  • China Southern Airlines: CZ 328 (Los Angeles → Guangzhou), reviewed by the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles.
  • XiamenAir: MF 830 (Los Angeles → Xiamen), reviewed by the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles.
  • China Eastern Airlines: MU 588 (New York → Shanghai), reviewed by the Chinese Consulate General in New York.

Testing Requirements

For travelers fully vaccinated with an inactivated vaccine:

  1. On the 7th day before boarding, go to a designated testing institution in the flight departure city (Dallas) for the first nucleic acid test. For example, if your flight to China departs on January 10, the sample should be collected at any time on January 3.
  2. Starting from the date of the first nucleic acid test, begin a 7-day self-health monitoring period in the departure city (Dallas), and truthfully complete the Self Health Status Monitoring Form (see attachment) as required.
  3. Within 48 hours before departure, go to two different designated testing institutions in the departure city (Dallas) for nucleic acid tests. For example, if your flight to China departs on January 10, the sample collection time may be any time on January 8, 9, or 10.
  4. If you have already been fully vaccinated with an inactivated vaccine and later also received a non-inactivated vaccine, you should follow the testing requirements for travelers fully vaccinated with an inactivated vaccine when applying for a health code.

For travelers fully vaccinated with a non-inactivated vaccine:

  1. On the 7th day before boarding, go to a designated testing institution in the flight departure city (Dallas) for the first nucleic acid test. For example, if your flight to China departs on January 10, the sample should be collected at any time on January 3.
  2. Starting from the date of the first nucleic acid test, begin a 7-day self-health monitoring period in the departure city (Dallas), and truthfully complete the Self Health Status Monitoring Form (see attachment) as required.
  3. Within 48 hours before departure, complete nucleic acid, S protein IgM antibody, and N protein IgM antibody testing at a designated testing institution in the departure city (Dallas). For example, if your flight to China departs on January 10, the sample collection time may be any time on January 8, 9, or 10.

For unvaccinated travelers and those not fully vaccinated:

  1. On the 7th day before boarding, go to a designated testing institution in the flight departure city (Dallas) for the first nucleic acid test. For example, if your flight to China departs on January 10, the sample should be collected at any time on January 3.
  2. Starting from the date of the first nucleic acid test, begin a 7-day self-health monitoring period in the departure city (Dallas), and truthfully complete the Self Health Status Monitoring Form (see attachment) as required.
  3. Within 48 hours before departure, complete nucleic acid, S protein IgM antibody, and N protein IgM antibody testing at a designated testing institution in the departure city (Dallas). For example, if your flight to China departs on January 10, the sample collection time may be any time on January 8, 9, or 10.
