Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced today (February 7) that Australia will reopen to international tourists on February 21.
Australia began closing its borders and strictly restricting entry and exit early in the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. But since the Delta and Omicron variants, the outbreak in Australia has also gotten out of control. Reopening the border is therefore a natural choice.
This border reopening applies only to vaccinated travelers. If you are not vaccinated, you still need to apply for an exemption in order to enter. Those without an exemption (even if you are Novak Djokovic) cannot enter. Australia tourist visas (subclass 600) are also open for applications.
